Here's what I did with my premier fabric.....

Hey guys! A few posts back I talked about the premier fabric and how it was on sale for $5.58 a yard. I spent my 5 bucks for 1 yard, and it was enough to cover both of these chairs I got at the thrift store for $14 a chair. I took off the awful fabric, sanded it, primed it, painted it black, and then covered with the new fabric. Here they are before.........

and after.......

and I also love this new lamp I bought at HomeGoods. :) I couldn't resist it........

I love the blown glass.....

It was $49 and I think it looks alot like this one, and mine was half the price.

A perfect princess party

My daughter just turned 4. She was conflicted when I asked her what kind of a birthday party she wanted. She is obsessed with Beauty and the Beast and wanted a Princess Belle themed party, but also wanted a tea party. So, needless to say, she was thrilled when I told her we could combine the two. :)

Birthday parties can really add up. I like to throw a nice party, but also be reasonable with the spending. The only thing I actually spent real money on was a costume for myself. (only $50 and I thought that was good considering I will wear it again maybe for halloween. I am trying to convince the Mr. to get a prince charming costume. He's not exactly going for it.) I surprised Maryn with my costume the day of the party and she was beside herself with excitement. She loved that mom dressed up like Belle! Here we are on the Red Carpet, purchased from party city online for only $5.99. This was a favorite. I wanted real tea pots and tea cups for the girls. Maryn really loves when she feels like she gets to do things that the grown ups do. I found 15 sets of tea cups with matching saucers at the Goodwill in Arlington for only 90 cents per set! And the beauty of this is that if one of the girls breaks a set, I don't care.....90 cents!! A few were different and I loved that. And here are all of the princesses at the Royal Table!! I actually have this table from Pottery barn kids and so does my neighbor. She let me borrow hers and then I just pushed them together and ordered 3 yards of this fabric from fabric.com for my table cloth. You can find a cheaper fabric for sure, but I liked this one and knew that I would use it for something else like recovering chairs or something.

They especially loved the fact that they got to pour their own tea! We had 2 teapots. One was filled with apple juice and the other with pink lemonade. I taped on the tops so they wouldn't spill. I think they really liked doing things by themselves.I also surprised maryn with the belle cake! She loved it and it was so easy and cheap. You need 2 box cakes and 3 tubs of icing and food coloring depending on which princess you use. Maryn already had a belle barbie. I saran wrapped her body first before putting her inside the cake. I used two 9 inch pans and then this pampered chef glass bowl (best purchase ever) as the top of her dress. If you ever need a pampered chef consultant, check out my friend, Karen's blog. She is awesome.

We have Aerial, Repunzal, The Queen, Belle, and Cinderella enjoying the party!

Winnie the Pooh teapot for the girls. :)

This party was for moms and daughters. So, while the little ones were enjoying their tea, I also had a spread for the mamas. It was really fun.

I purchased these napkins at Marshalls for $4.99 for a pack of 40. LOVE them.

mini flower boquets for the girl's table

As you can see, the girls had a blast!! A little thrifting goes a long way! :)

DIY: Little girl's table

I bought an adorable bright pink chair for my daughter. She loves it! She had it sitting in the corner of her room. It looked so cute, but it wasn't getting much use. I know she loves tea parties, and she said she would like a little table to go with her chair. So, off to my garage with all of my vases, candle holders, bottles, etc. I feel like all the time we spend alot of money on things when we really can do these things ourselves! Here's what I did: I got a big candle holder for the base. You can get big ones at thrift stores and paint them, and of course they always carry them at Homegoods for about $6.00 or so. Mine was already white, so I didn't need to spray paint it or anything.

Then I bought a round piece of wood from a craft store for $4! Then I just painted it white and glued it on to my base. You can use a hot glue gun, but I used E6000 adhesive. Either one works.
Isn't this sweet? We have lots of little chairs and she loves to set the table with all of her stuffed animals. :)

Have a great weekend everyone!

premier prints on sale.....ends today

Hey guys, Just wanted to let you know that Premier Prints fabric is on sale at fabric.com. These are some of my favorite fabrics. They have really fun designs and SO reasonably priced. Right now, one of my favorites, (chipper) is on sale for $5.58 a yard! seriously so cheap! Click here to see the chipper fabrics, but all of the premier prints are on sale as well.

If you spend over $35, it's free shipping. I am going to place an order later today, so to my girlfriends who live locally- if you only want a yard or 2 and don't want to pay for shipping, let me know and I will add it to my order because mine is already over $35.

If you are buying fabric for throw pillows, remember 1 yard typically makes two 18 inch pillows. If you want 20 inch pillows, then go with a whole yard. And if you purchase the fabric (or I purchase it), my sister in law will make pillows for people at $14 per 18 inch pillow. steal. If it's a 20 inch pillow, I think it's about $16.

One of my favorites is the black chipper because it looks awesome in anyone's living room. It has the traditional ikat pattern with a modern flair to it. I LOVE it. I love it in yellow too, especially if you do up against gray walls. Yum.

More prints I like with Premier are here, here, (these are great for baby girl's room) and here for baby boy's room. And here if you like orange. There are tons more at the fabric.com site.

If you want me to order fabric for you, tell me exactly which one and how many yards. Email me at katiegates18@hotmail.com. Also, Amy Butler is also on sale. I can order any fabrics from the fabric.com website. Let me know and put "pillows" on the heading. Happy weekend guys!!

see ya stripes

My husband painted stripes in our dining room when we first moved in 5 years ago. I loved them, but there was no color in that room and I had a hard time finding ways to add color. I could do vases and that sort of thing, but it still looked dull. I had been wanting to paint that room for a while now, but I just couldn't find the right color. Then my neighbor painted her living room this beautiful ocean blue and I was in love. I asked her if she minded if I copied it. I got a few different blue samples, but hers was still my favorite one. Bermudian blue by Behr. LOVE. It looks amazing both day and night. Here is my dull dining room before: I moved a few things around like the mirror and the rug, and I purchased a new drum shade. Now I just need to figure out what I am going to do on that back wall. Also, our good friend, Chris with All around Home came and moved our light fixture over for us to the center of the ceiling. The chandelier that came with the house was not centered and it drove me crazy. Then once we got a new drum shade, it HAD to be centered.

Here is the dining room AFTER: I had just set the table for tea I was having.

bookshelf makeover

There is an amazing thrift store in Falls Church called the Unique thrift store. It is enormous and has some awesome finds. I popped in the other day and came out with this little bookshelf for my son's room. It was $5! I'm not sure why they priced it so cheap. It's a solid wood, very sturdy bookshelf. But, no complaints here. :)

Here it is........ And here is Maryn modeling the shelf before she "helped" me sand it.

I sanded it down with an electric sander. It didn't really need it, but I wanted the paint to have a really smooth finish. Then I wiped it down with a damp cloth to get rid of all the extra grit. I primed it with Rustoleum's white primer and then spray painted it really well with Rustoleum's glossy white. It had such a great finish! I remember that I had a whole bunch of wallpaper that I bought years ago, but then didn't use. I bought it for a powder room, and I'm thankful I didn't use it because it is a bit loud. I thought it would be perfect though for the back of emmett's shelf. I simply measured the backs and then cut out the paper. Done!

And the best part about the whole thing is that the wallpaper has bright orange in it and matches his room perfectly!

Now onto the accessories........

A pic of sweet e with his mama.

What is so fun about this project is the things you can do with this shelf is endless. I actually used painters tape to put the paper on the back. It worked really well. I was nervous to actually paste it on there in case down the road I wanted it for a different space and decided to change up the background. And knowing my history, I could change out the paper in a month or so. An idea I think would be incredible is you painted a book shelf a glossy black with this wallpaper called Woods by Cole and Son as your background.

So, including the spray paint, the whole project cost me under $15. Sweet.

CB2 Grand Opening in Georgetown

This past Friday night, Brad and I attended the grand opening of the CB2 in Georgetown with our good friends, Tim and Jordan. Do you know how long I have been waiting for DC to get a CB2? I have been getting their catalog for years, but the first time I went into an actual store, it was a few years ago when Brad and I were in San Fransisco. I was SO excited, but obviously couldn't bring anything big home with me. So, needless to say, I was thrilled when we finally got one! CB2 is part of Crate and Barrel, but it's the more modern loft version and much lower prices. It's kind of like what West Elm is to Pottery Barn.

The grand opening was amazing. I had never been to an opening before, so I didn't know what to expect. It was incredible. I thought I was walking into a dance club. We walked up on a red carpet on M street to enter the store and then they checked our name off the list. It was complete with open bar, a DJ, professional photographers, and hor'dourves. Too bad I thought I was so cool and then at one point when I reached in my purse for chapstick, out fell emmett's trains and one toddler princess glove. Haha. We are such posers. I feel like most of the people there were fashion or home designers that lived in the city. And then there were us "trying to be cool" parents who live in suburbia and spend our days whiping dirty hands and playing princess or cars. Oh well, it was a blast anyway! I loved all of the new items that they have come out with!

Me and Jordan.

Here are some of the items I loved! This glass dining table was only $299!

These dishes were stunning and I loved the charcoal color....

Peekaboo nesting tables. These tables are really expensive right now, so here is a much cheaper option

Check out their website! They have some great things for really great prices. The store as a whole is probably a little too modern for my taste, but I definitely love elements from there for my home.
