I love when I find just what I "need"

Ok, so I don't really NEED a magazine rack. I wanted one, but it does serve a purpose, right? I mean, my guests need to have an assortment of magazines for their reading pleasure when they visit my home. :)

A magazine rack isn't something I am necessarily going to go out and look for, but I have wanted one, so if I saw one for a good price, I would snatch it up. So, I have the "need" taken care of, and here's where the love part comes in. The fabric below is one that I have loved for a while. I think this fabric would make fabulous pillows or drapes. However, I do not need anymore throw pillows and all of my windows are already perfectly dressed. But I just looooooved the design of this fabric. You can purchase this fabric here.

So, one day while I was at the Old Luckett's store, I spotted this beauty. It's a tin magazine rack with my design on it, not to mention super cheap! I get excited about the little things. :) It was red, which some people really like, but it's not one of my favorite decorating colors. So, I gave her a shiny coat of spray paint.

Look how happy she is in my powder room......

A trip to Lucketts

If you live in the DC area, and you have never been to Lucketts, Virginia, you must go some weekend. It's actually one of my favorite places to go. It is such an adorable little town with lots of adorable antique stores, restaurants, and general stores. I went this past Saturday looking for something specific, and of course I found a few other fun items I wanted to share with you.
I loved this headboard. I'm not crazy about the scrolling at the top, but the headboard itself is incredible. And maybe painted a bright yellow if using it for a kid's room, or keep it the black for yourself. I loved it. That trellis pattern is one of my favorites. This mantle was awesome. It was very expensive, but the thing about the Old Lucketts store is, you can find something that is super expensive, and then find the exact thing for cheap simply because they are all different vendors that sell there.

So, if you do not have a fireplace in your home, get one of these. They sell tons there and range anywhere from $40 to $300. It all depends on the detailing. You can mount it to your wall, and people are now filling in the actual fireplace part with mirrored glass or simply painting it a matte black.

Here is an example: This room below was decorated by designer, Eddie Ross. He found the mantle at a flea market. Then went and bought a mirror at Lowe's. (the $9 ones that hang on the back of the door) Then He took it to a glass shop and had the mirrors cut 3 ways to fit the opening. This way is cheaper if you already have the mirror. But, you can go to a glass shop and they will provide the mirror and cut the glass for you if you want one big mirror fitting the space, as opposed to 3 smaller ones. It will just be a little bit more expensive.
Some people may think a fake fireplace is pointless, but it really does add to a room. And let's be honest, the fireplace is all about the Christmas decorations! So, if you have a fireplace, that is great. If you don't have one, this is a really fun alternative, and inexpensive! If you live in the area, both Reston Glass and Sterling Glass are great places to go if you need glass or mirror cut to a particular size. I loved this old wine rack at Luckett's.
Rustic table for $40.
chandelier for baby's nursery? so sweet!
Another fireplace. This one was only $50! I already have a fireplace, but a little temted to buy one and put it in my basement.
I bought this cute vintage frame for $15. I'm not completely sure what I am going to do with it, but it will be cute. :)
Turqoise door. The possiblities with this one are endless!

the family table

Every night when we "sit" down to dinner, my kids sit up at the island and Brad and I stand on the other side. We have done this forever and I have no idea why! A little before Christmas, I told Brad I wanted a little kitchen table where the 4 of us can enjoy meals together. So, as my Christmas present, he bought me this table. You know you are officially an adult when you get a table for Christmas! So, my present was the table and only the table. New chairs would cost around $100 plus per chair. So, I am on the look out for 4 fun chairs that I can re-cover! And actually, I so prefer this rather than buying chairs. It's all in the thrill of the hunt for me. Plus, I can choose my own fabric. So, for now, I have my $4 thrift store chairs there.
The new rug turned out to be a bust. I ordered this rug last week and got it yesterday. It is too small! I thought the 6 foot one would do it, but it did not. Once I switch it out with the 8 foot rug, I'll post pics. I do love the natural fibers thought along with the white. It gives that space a little bit of a "beachy feel."

cheap lamp

I was browsing through Goodwill the other day. I just love finding fun, cheap home items that I can bring back to life. :) If you are need of a lamp or pair of lamps and don't want to spend alot, I highly recommend going to a thrift store. They usually always have those old brass lamps that only need a pretty high gloss spray paint job.

This lamp was only $3. The shades they come with aren't usually the greatest, but you can find a pretty inexpensive drum shade at target, HG, TJ Maxx, etc. I spray painted it with Rustoleums Granite Satine. The paint had the most beautiful finish. To add to this lamp, maybe add a fun mirror and maybe some yellow chevron pillows.....amazing.

Just look for a brass lamp with a great base shape. The best part is that you can pick the color!

Homegoods Tysons

Right now at Tysons Corner Homegoods:

Fun, funky chair....perfect for a teen's room. The pattern is bold and so fun! Looks very pottery barn teen and more than half the price. Imperial trellis rug!! $59 bones. This would be in the hundreds of dollars any where else I assure you. Put it in your entry way or kitchen. It's a cream suede over a grey background. Seriously stunning.
Sweet little girl's chair. My 3 year old actually has this chair and she loves it!!
My friend is re-doing her living room. She wants to do some silvers and blues.....very elegant. (Julie, thought these lamps would look amazing in the formal living room with those new pillows you just bought. :) just sayin.
or these.......
or these.......

someone buy these

This lattice print is everywhere and really such an elegant design. I saw 2 window panels on etsy here for $250 per pair. They also have them at Ballard here for about $400 per pair. But, I saw these at Z Gallerie and only $50 per panel. That's not bad considering how popular these are right now. If the bright blue is too much for you, it also comes in a more conservative green. Both are beautiful. I don't have a place in my house right now for these curtain panels, so someone buy them! :)
